Never Miss a Workout - Weekly Wrap

It was one of those weeks when daily life commitments clashed with the workout schedule. With a little pre-planning, I was able to rearrange my workouts. I'm pretty excited to be able to say that for the past five weeks of following my carb cycling program, I have never missed a workout.

Interval Training
On Monday I did a new elliptical sprint workout. I still used a 1:2 ratio, but did 30 seconds sprint to 1 minute recovery instead of 20:40 like I had been doing. That extra 10 seconds of work definitely maxed out my muscles. After 10 sprints, I did a 15 minute cool down on the elliptical and then a plank circuit. Tuesday's HIIT in the park turned out to be my favorite ---> because it almost beat me but I pushed through and finished 7 rounds of 7 reps of 7 different exercises.

(PS - did you see my interval training post?)

Strength Training
I had to move some of my training days around this week, but I still got everything done. Thursday I needed to do my workout at home, but the leg day home version was just as tough even though most of it was bodyweight exercises. Drop sets on Wednesday and Sunday were fun. Each week feels like I'm getting better at using the right weights and I like that I can push myself to go heavy for one set then drop to lighter for the remaining sets. Using heavier weights is hurting my hands though, so I'm thinking about getting a pair of training gloves ---> something like these from Nike on Amazon, but I don't know if they're what I need or not.

Active Rest Days
Friday and Saturday I did Yoga with Adriene videos - Go With The Flow and Total Body Yoga. The change of workout days worked in my favor as my legs were really sore from Thursday's leg day. Two days of yoga felt good.

Do you wear training gloves?

I’m linking up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap!

    1. This program makes it so easy - some workouts are less than 30 minutes!

  2. I have not gotten lifting gloves, but I've seen women wearing them at Orange Theory even. You had a great week!

    1. I see about 50/50 wearing them. Never thought I would but I'm getting some rough spots and figured they might help...

  3. I'll be doing a long yoga session tomorrow! I can't wait.

My coach won't let me wear gloves when I lift. I think it's a CrossFit thing. I do chalk my hands, tho.

    1. Maybe I'll try chalk first. I'll have to start looking for it here.

  4. I go to a HIIT/KB-focused gym and some wear gloves but most don't. I used to lift heavy weights and never used gloves (the guys would have laughed at me :-) ) so I didn't even think about using them when I joined my current gym. I do have some dandy callouses. But honestly, I like to feel the weights so I don't think gloves are for me.

    1. I'm the opposite and trying to avoid the callouses ;) but, having said that, I don't know how I feel about not feeling the weights. I guess I'll just have to try!

  5. Loving all of your workouts this week, especially the HIIT workouts. I really need to do those type of workouts more often. Such a great way to work all your muscles and get a super sweaty workout!

  6. Great job rearranging your workouts. I don't do weights (I know, I should!). But, I will not water ski without padded gloves. My hands are still so callused. I wear them for grip more than anything. I also will not cycle without gloves - funny how changing gears will rub a blister!. You'll probably have to try a pair to see if you like the "feel" better. Thanks for linking!

    1. I think you're right, I'll have to get a pair and see how they feel...if I like not feeling the weight. I can see how they would help when cycling too!

  7. I am always impressed with how much you do in a week, even on your rest days. Its funny that you ask about gloves because my sister and I were just talking about that. I of course don't wear them because I don't lift but she does.

    1. Following this program helps keep me focused even on rest days, which I used to be terrible at! I'm much better about structured workouts now than when I was running.

  8. Our daughter uses gloves when she's doing weights...I've never used them, though. It probably depends on the texture (?) of the bar or "handle" (is that what it's called?). You had an active week, as always ;-)

  9. You're on a great workout streak! I tried gloves at one point but could never get comfortable with them. What about chalk?
