Running is obviously my first choice and because we have a treadmill, I have the option of running inside when the weather is bad. Lately I have also been using the treadmill to do walking workouts on my non-running days.
One thing I have learned over the last couple of years is that to be a better runner, you must cross train and do strength training. One way that I incorporate strength training is by following various 30 day challenges. Several sites publish calendars to follow making it easy to find one that works for you.
I also search for workouts in magazines that I can tear out, tack to the bulletin board, or save for future use.
A new workout that I recently learned about is a challenge from TribeSports called British Military Fitness: Blue Workout. It's a circuit workout that anyone can perform because all you need is your own body weight.
How do you feel about gyms or fitness centers?

I belong to a gym, but use it for swimming only. All my other strength training I do at home. Thanks for giving me some new ideas on where to find workouts!
ReplyDeleteAt home workouts are my jam! I love going nuts in my basement and making up my own thing. I miss the gym but not being a member is what works right now.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of gyms, but I go to them to do the cross training and strength training needed for running. I just wish it was okay to run only because I love it!
ReplyDeleteWe belong to a gym but I've also got a nice basement setup because there are so many times I don't make it to the gym (right now I'm letting the resolutioners have it to themselves!)
ReplyDeleteI used to hate going to the gym, and then I got in shape. I enjoy the motivation the other people give me just by being there (I can go faster than that guy, I can squat more than that). I also like all the options the equipment gives me. The problem comes this time of year because I hate waiting for equipment; I tend to find something else to do instead, so my plans go out the window.
ReplyDeleteI actually miss my gym. It closed this summer. I used to only go to the gym to use the treadmill, but then started using the weight room with squat rack and then taking spin classes. So I guess I just miss access to all the equipment. At home I only have free weights and DVDS.
ReplyDeleteI like to have the option of the gym -I'm a member at mine but during the summer I usually am outside much more often. The heavy rains in the winter - or dark mornings sometimes put me in the gym. Last year there was a murder not far from my area and the suspect wasn't caught so my husband told me I was not allowed to run anywhere but inside the gym! I really like to do body weight workouts in the morning at home or outside in the summer!
ReplyDeleteI do miss the indoor pool.
ReplyDeleteI agree!
ReplyDeleteI remember those times ;)
ReplyDeleteI do miss the interaction of being at the Y.
ReplyDeleteI felt that way at first too, but it's fun to see what I can find on my own too.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely have to stay safe!
ReplyDeleteI used to be at the Y, but is just a gym. I miss having a pool!
ReplyDeleteI love going to the gym! But I'm not very productive when I go. I end up standing around gawking at the brute strength of the gym rats. I recently started using the stationary bike for cross training, though, and this seems to be the perfect spot for me: I can stare at other people while simultaneously keeping my heart rate up. How's that for a confession? BTW, I like your blue capris! Where did you get them?
ReplyDeleteAwesome #TrainingTruth! It was fun to people watch at the Y too. Focus Capri from NUX - came in my pv.body package.
ReplyDeleteThe indoor pool is a good idea. Calories are much burned when swimming. www.swimnj.com
ReplyDeleteHonestly - I think I can almost DITCH my gym membership because 1. I have a home gym with all the works (treadmill, elliptical, bike, weight rack, cable machine, step bench, weight bench, bosu ball, gliders, jump rope, medicine ball, kettle bells, and ladders). My trainer JUST told me she would train me without being a member of the gym also. Hmmmmmmm......don't tempt me. LOL. Great article.
ReplyDeleteLots of thanks for this post.I think it is a very good post. It helps us many away. So many many thanks for this article..
