Why You Shouldn’t Skip Breakfast Before a Holiday Feast

With holiday gatherings and big meals in full swing, it’s tempting to skip breakfast to “save room” for the main event. But here’s the thing: skipping that first meal can set you up for overeating and feeling less than your best later on.

If you’re like many women navigating the holiday season, you’re trying to find balance - enjoying the moments without feeling sluggish or overly full. A balanced breakfast is your secret weapon for feeling energized, making mindful choices, and avoiding the post-meal regret.

Here’s why breakfast is a must before a big meal:

  1. A Balanced Plate Keeps You Satisfied
Starting your day with carbs, fats, and protein helps stabilize your blood sugar, keeping hunger in check. You’re far less likely to arrive at dinner ravenous, which can help you enjoy your meal without overdoing it.

  2. Avoid Overindulging
When you skip breakfast, hunger can take over by the time you sit down for a big meal. This often leads to snacking on appetizers and piling up your plate, leaving you feeling overly full and uncomfortable.

  3. Make Better Food Choices
A balanced breakfast helps you stay mindful. When you’ve nourished your body earlier, you can savor your holiday favorites in moderation, without feeling the need to go overboard.

What does a balanced breakfast look like?

  • Carbs: Sourdough toast, oatmeal, or fruit for energy
  • Proteins: Eggs, Greek yogurt, or lean meats to keep you full
  • Fats: Avocado, nut butter, or seeds for long-lasting satisfaction

Here’s a festive idea: Try sourdough toast with almond butter and a sprinkle of cinnamon. It feels indulgent but keeps you on track.

If you’re ready to enjoy holiday meals without the guilt or discomfort of overindulging, it starts with one simple step: don’t skip breakfast!

Staying on Track This Thanksgiving: Simple Tips for a Balanced Day

Thanksgiving is almost here, and I know it can feel tricky when it comes to staying on track with your health goals. But don’t worry - I’ve got your back! The key is balance. With a little preparation and some mindful strategies, you can enjoy the holiday and feel great afterward.

First things first, remember Thanksgiving is about more than just the food - it’s about gratitude and connection. So, go into the day with a mindset of enjoying yourself without overdoing it. Savor each bite of your favorite dishes slowly and stop when you feel satisfied. It’s all about feeling good, not stuffed. And if you're hosting, don’t be afraid to ask for help! Delegating tasks can ease some stress and keep you focused on the enjoyment of the day.

Another great way to balance out all the delicious food is by getting moving! It doesn’t need to be anything complicated - just something fun. A Turkey Trot (even a walk), a family football game, or a casual walk after dinner can help with digestion and keep your energy up. Think of it as quality time with your loved ones, while also staying active.

When it comes to the meal, here’s a little tip: start your plate with protein and veggies. Fill up on turkey, green beans, or Brussels sprouts, and once you’ve covered your nutritional bases, enjoy your favorite treats. If pie is your thing, save room for that instead of sampling everything on the table.

If you're sticking to intermittent fasting, don't stress - just adjust as needed. You can modify your fasting window to fit in with Thanksgiving dinner. When it’s time to break your fast, choose something protein-packed to set you up for steady energy. Think eggs with avocado toast or a Pumpkin Protein Smoothie.

At the end of the day, Thanksgiving is just one day, and what matters most is how you feel overall. Focus on being present, enjoying the company around you, and savoring the moments. If you need any extra tips or have questions, feel free to drop them in the comments. I’m here to help!

Let’s make this Thanksgiving the perfect blend of celebration and staying true to our health goals.

Tips to Stay on Track this Labor Day Weekend

Hi everyone!

Labor Day is right around the corner and the end of summer parties are too.
Raise your hand if you have big plans for the weekend?

It can be easy to fill up on junk food and alcohol and desserts.

So how can you enjoy your good-bye to summer party without throwing in the towel on your healthy habits?

Here’s the deal…you do not have to go into your weekend with an all or nothing attitude. You CAN have fun, stay healthy and STILL enjoy your weekend!

Here’s how:
  1. exercise - if you know you are going to splurge, start off with a great workout. Get a good workout done and get the furnace going. If you do a good workout, your body will be in fat burning mode through out your day.
  1. save your calories - if you know that you are going to an afternoon or evening party, try breaking your fast later in the day. This means you can enjoy al the yummy food during the party without worrying that you are eating too much.
  1. bring your own dish - there are so many amazing recipes you can serve (or bring) that the entire crowd will love! You don't have to sacrifice flavor or your desserts to stay healthy and still enjoy your holiday weekend.
Remember, living a healthy lifestyle means we know how balance our choices. The majority of the time, eat spot on and healthy! But make time to enjoy a treat, dessert, special meal or a drink! When you eat like this, you don't feel deprived! It's all about moderation!  Know when enough is enough!
